Pipeline Initiatives
Skills Gap Solutions: Training for Manufacturing & Healthcare
In response to the growing demand for skilled workers in both manufacturing and healthcare, two innovative programs are equipping individuals with the necessary training for success. The Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative (MPI) and the Healthcare Pipeline Initiative (HPI) offer targeted training options to address the specific needs of local employers. Both programs cater to unemployed or underemployed individuals, providing them with the tools and knowledge to jumpstart rewarding careers in these high-growth fields.
Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative
The Manufacturing Pipeline training program is designed to develop skilled workers for Electric Boat (EB), members of the Eastern Advanced Manufacturing Alliance Regional Sector Partnership (EAMA RSP), and other regional employers. The program offers several options including: short-term classroom training, online training options, and job search assistance. The program targets those who are unemployed or underemployed. The training is designed to fit the specific hiring needs of EB, EAMA RSP, and other local manufacturers. The MPI core fundamental skills include:
- Basic blueprint readings
- Common measuring tools
- Perform basic layout functions
- Operate drill press, band saw, cutoff saw, belt sander, and pedestal grinders
- Basic milling and lathe operations
- Manufacturing Math
- Safety in the Workplace (OSHA 10)
Healthcare Pipeline Initiative
The Healthcare Pipeline trainings are designed to meet the needs of in-demand healthcare occupations. If necessary, we can work with the community colleges to customize the curriculum to the needs of an employer to ensure the students learn the skills necessary for the job.
The Healthcare Pipeline is modeled after the nationally acclaimed Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative (MPI). Our experience with that model has shown us that people who have gone through this program have had a better retention rate with their employers.
