Youth Manufacturing Pipeline
Eastern CT’s Youth Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative (YMPI)
The Youth Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative is based on the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board’s (EWIB) nationally recognized Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative (MPI). The curriculum is recognized by the Eastern Advanced Manufacturing Alliance Regional Sector Partnership (EAMA RSP) which consists of more than 35 manufacturing companies (including General Dynamics Electric Boat) in Eastern CT as rigorous and skilled training courses that prepare individuals for entry-level jobs in manufacturing.
Manufacturing companies in Eastern CT have a large demand for jobs for years to come. And with many workers in this field reaching retirement age, there is an extensive demand for these jobs to be filled. EWIB, in collaboration with CT State Community College, EAMA RSP, and other regional partners, designed the YMPI to implement skilled manufacturing exposure and training for K-12 schools, to prepare for the next generation of manufacturers! From elementary, middle, and high school, we have opportunities for students to learn and advance into careers in manufacturing.
The Opportunity:
The Youth Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative (YMPI) Training:
The YMPI program is delivered in partnership with comprehensive high schools throughout Eastern Connecticut. The program offers manufacturing skills training, career exploration, work-based learning, and other career development and awareness opportunities to high school students interested in a manufacturing career upon graduation. Students interested in YMPI training should contact their school’s guidance departments to learn more about the manufacturing classes offered at their school.
