MPI Frequently Asked Questions

The Eastern CT Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative Program is provided at NO COST to participants. The program is funded by the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) through a variety of federal, state, private & philanthropic grant funds.

What kind of training is available?

Training programs target: Machine Operating, Welding, and Plastics. Other training classes are EB specific and are available as job demand requires: Pipefitting, Shipfitting, Sheetmetal, Electrical, Design/Drafting, Planning, Painting, & Rigging.

Who is providing this training?

Training is currently offered at:

  • CT State – Three Rivers at Ella Grasso Technical High School, Groton
  • CT State -Quinebaug Valley, Danielson & Willimantic
  • Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI), Westerly, RI
How long does the training last?

The intensive, work-based classroom training programs range from 2.5 to 10 weeks long. The classes are 6-1/2 hours per day, five days per week for the duration of the training (i.e.: classes may run from 8:00am-2:30pm or 3:00pm-9:30pm).

When is the training offered?

MPI training classes are offered regularly, often with several training classes beginning each month.  The schedule varies by trade and is based on employer demand. Applicants are encouraged to register and attend orientation to learn about the upcoming training schedule. 

Do I get paid wages during the classroom training?

There are no wages paid during the classroom training.

What happens after the classroom training?

Many of the graduates earn interviews from regional manufacturers that include additional on-the-job training. Graduates may find positions with EAMA RSP-member companies, which includes EB, or other manufacturers. Interested employers may visit the class during training. Participants recieve stipends based on attendance. Job search assistance is available upon class completion. It is recommended that graduates attend the Interviewing and Resume Writing workshops available at the local American Job Center to prepare for interview success.

NOTE: To work at EB, candidates must pass an employment interview, drug test, physical, and security clearance.

What do I need to do to get into the Program?

Add: no-reply@eskill.com  to your address book or check your spam box for this incoming email! This email is important as it comes with instructions on the Manufacturing Skills Inventory, along with a link to the “Next Steps” document.

2.The Manufacturing Skills Inventory (MSI) will be emailed to you, from eSkill,  within 24 – 48 hours.  You will have 7 days to access the link in the email, before it is deactivated.    Use a computer, laptop, or Chromebook to access the link.  

All prospective students complete the Manufacturing Skills Inventory to measure skills such as ruler reading, shop math and spatial reasoning.  

The purpose of the Skills Inventory is to gather information to help the training providers, and participants, prepare for the upcoming classes.

5.Once these steps are completed, you will be contacted within 10 days to schedule an Orientation where you will learn more about the training, job search opportunities available and hear about jobs at EB & EAMA RSP.

Is there financial assistance while in the Program?

Yes, there are supportive services available to participants while in classroom training. Examples include travel reimbursement, daycare assistance, and required books, tools, and clothing. Additionally, there is a cash stipend awarded to participants for successful completion of classroom training benchmarks.

Who is eligible for the Program?

The program targets unemployed/underemployed CT Residents & others. Applicants that are authorized to work in the U.S. are eligible for the program. Residents of other states may be eligible if they are authorized to work in the U.S.*

Due to the hours of the training classes, if you are working in a full-time position, it may be challenging to accommodate both your job and the training class.

*Applicants must be U.S. Citizens to qualify to work at EB.

Participation in this training program will not stop or extend your Unemployment Benefits. All unemployed and underemployed individuals interested in the program will be given equal consideration.
