Creating a Resume in MS Word- Virtual & In-person
Creating a Resume in MS Word – Virtual is a 1-hour workshop that assists job seekers to gain the knowledge and skills to create a resume using MS Word. Job seekers will gain the knowledge to format resume sections including Contact Information, Skills Summary, Profile, Professional Experience and Education/Certifications. Re-formatting Microsoft Word documents into plain text and pdf documents, suitable for insertion into and/or attachments to online job applications and emails, is also reviewed.
The In-Person is a 3 hour workshop that will focus on the MSWord skills needed to create a resume. Job seekers will learn, and practice hands-on, how to format resume sections including; Contact Information, Skills Summary, Profile, Professional Experience and Education/Certifications. In addition re-formatting MS Word documents into plain text and pdf files, suitable for insertion into and/or attachments to online job applications and emails, will also be included. Workshop participants will be able to format and edit resumes at the completion of this workshop.
CTHires Resume Builder- Virtual
CTHires Resume Builder gives you the opportunity to create a resume in a chronological or functional format to meet your needs. This free, 60-minute virtual workshop will teach you how to: Update your CTHires profile, build a comprehensive resume using CTHires and Edit and reformat your CTHires resume quickly and easily.
Email Essentials – In-person
This Email Essentials Workshop is a 2.5 hour in-person, hands-on workshop providing job seekers with the skills needed to utilize email in job search. Participants will learn how to create a job search friendly email address, compose, reply, attach documents, and manage emails.
Email for Job Seekers – Virtual
Are you tired of sending emails and getting no response? In the Email for Job Seekers workshop, learn how to email a resume and cover letter to a prospective employer and how to avoid common mistakes. Topics include effective email addresses, email subject lines, various file formats for resumes and cover letters, and how to attach a resume to an email.
Emailing Potential Employers – In-person
This Emailing Potential Employers workshop is a 2-hour, in-person, hands-on workshop. Job seekers will learn how to structure an email to potential employers. Job seekers will practice responding to job postings with a sample resume, initiating contact with an employer and following up with an employer via email.
Essential Computer Skills – In-person
Essential Computer Skills is a 3-hour, in-person, hands-on workshop. Jobseekers will learn how to navigate in a Windows environment, create files, locate, and identify job search sites. Workshop recommendations will be given to each individual at the conclusion of the workshop.
Exploring CTHires – Virtual
Exploring CTHires is a 1-hour virtual workshop. Learn how to easily register for workshops, check your CTHires messages, locate and access job search, career, and education services on CTHires.
Getting Started with Google Docs – In-Person & Virtual
Get Started with Google Docs and improve your computer skills. Learn how to use Google Docs in a fun, stress-free environment. Learn how to share and collaborate on documents with multiple people. This is a 1-hour virtual workshop.
Getting Started with MS Word – In-person
Getting Started with MS Word is a 3-hour, in person, workshop that will equip job seekers with the basic skills to create, save, format and edit aesthetically pleasing and grammatically correct documents. Job seekers will learn how to save documents in file formats such as pdf and plain text.
Healthcare Pipeline Orientation – In-person & Virtual
Learn how the Eastern CT Healthcare Pipeline Initiative (HPI) can give you the skills you need to get a job in healthcare! This brief workshop will provide an overview of healthcare careers, training required, labor market trends and local training providers. You will find out how to register for the HPI and other job center services.
How to Apply Online- In-person or Virtual
Applying online for a job can be very confusing – every application is different. Learn the basics of applying online: using job search engines; common elements of the online application process and uploading/inserting resumes to online applications.
How Social Media Impacts Your Job Opportunities – Virtual
This is a 1-hour virtual workshop, How Social Media Impacts Your Job Opportunities, explores how social media can negatively and positively impact employment opportunities. Job seekers will learn how to review their social media footprint and how to protect their social media image.
Internet Search, Safety & Zoom – In-person
This is a 2- hour, in-person, hands-on Internet Search, Safety, & Zoom workshop focuses on how to safely use search engines such as Google, Indeed, and Bing. Job seekers will learn how to identify sites that are safe, protect personal information, set up and join a Zoom session.
Networking with LinkedIn- In-person or Virtual
Networking with LinkedIn is one of the #1 ways to find your next job. The LinkedIn platform is the world’s largest professional networking site. This workshop focuses on the elements of creating an effective LinkedIn profile, how to make connections, and perform a search for job openings.
Preparing for a Virtual Interview and Job Fair- In-person or Virtual
Are you ready for a virtual interview? Do you know how to attend a virtual job fair? This workshop, Preparing for a Virtual Interview and Job-Fair, will help you develop a strategy to prepare for both. The most popular platforms and techniques will be discussed. Participants will be offered the chance to practice one-on-one with the facilitator.
Computer Assistance for Job Seekers- Virtual
One on one computer assistance, virtually, via Zoom. Job seekers will be able to share their screen allowing an instructor to guide them as needed. All computer assistance questions/issues must be in support of job search activities.
Confidence Makeover- In-person or Virtual
This workshop, Confidence Makeover, is presented in 2 Sessions on one day: Session 1: 9am – 11am Note: 2 hour break (11am-1pm) Session 2: 1pm – 3pm Most workers who have lost their jobs or careers due Covid-19 factors will experience some degree of lost confidence. The lack of confidence affects their ability to work through the difficult times of unemployment. It can affect their self-image, their resume presentation, their ability to interview. What employer wants to or is willing to hire someone who has lost their confidence and does not believe in themselves? Learning how to build back their confidence can be the key to acquiring employment.
Picking Up the Pieces- In-person or Virtual
This workshop is presented in 2 Sessions on one day: Session 1: 9am – 11am (Note: 2-hour break 11am-1pm) Session 2: 1pm – 3pm Grief, denial, anger, and depression can paralyze workers and severely limit their ability to cope. Loss of identity, direction, pride, confidence, and trust can hinder recovery. Participants will remotely participate in Zoom discussions, whiteboard, and visual workbook exercises; dealing with stages of job loss; internalizing steps/procedures that will give them the strength and /methods/tools to move forward. Participants will examine the emotional waves they are experiencing; the highs, lows, crests, and troughs to effectively deal with these emotional challenges.

Powerful Job Search Emails is a 1-hour workshop focused on crafting effective emails for a variety of job search situations. Job seekers will learn strategies to create emails requesting informational interviews, references, referrals, and employment opportunities.
